
Moringa oleifera is the most widely cultivated variety among the 13 known species of Moringa.
It is said that this miracle plant contains 36 anti-inflammatories, 18 amino acids, and 9 essential amino acids that help in developing a strong and healthy body.
During the sixteenth century, moringa was prescribed in gout, obesity, headache, eye diseases, and as a digestive stimulant. Oil of the seeds is massaged in gout and acute inflammations. The leaves of moringa (sanjana) tree are also useful in cholera. A teaspoon of fresh leaf-juice, mixed with honey and a glass of tender coconut water, can be given two or three times as a herbal medicine in the treatment. The fruit pods are cooked as vegetable and recommended for loss of appetite, cardiac debility.
